Dear Colleagues and Workshop Participants,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all attendees of the International Workshop on “Monitoring Geospace Disturbances from the Ground: Scientific Challenges, Observational Networks, and International Collaboration”, scheduled to take place in State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 23rd to 27th September 2024.
This workshop presents an invaluable opportunity for the global space weather community to come together and address the fundamental geospace processes impacting our solar-terrestrial environment. As co-chairs of the Organizing Committee, we are excited to advocate for the unique contributions of ground-based observations to space weather research and monitoring and to emphasize the importance of global and regional collaboration in advancing our understanding of geospace.
Throughout the workshop, we aim to showcase interdisciplinary discoveries, foster discussions on enhancing observational effectiveness and addressing cutting-edge science questions through coordinated observation networks, and stimulate the emergence of new ideas for instrumentation and international coordination. The scientific program will cover a broad spectrum of fundamental processes, including solar and geomagnetic activities, geospace coupling, atmospheric weather and climate change, earth magnetic field variations, and solid earth hazards.
This workshop holds special significance on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) and of the 10th anniversary of the China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather. Its venue in São Paulo, Brazil, with its spirit of collaboration and excellence in space weather research, provides an ideal setting for fruitful discussions and collaboration among participants from all over the world.
We look forward to your active participation and stimulating contributions to progress in global geospace science and monitoring, and to the pleasure of welcoming you in Sao Paulo next September!
